Well, it's my own fault. I knew we had two feet of snow coming and I still didn't trim back the rosemary and bring most of it inside...don't think we'll see the soil again until the spring. Hopefully, the blanket of snow will protect it...

Mountain Dew introduces a breakfast drink
Hahahahahaha - wait - they are serious?
I'd call this candy-in-a-can a breakfast to "Kickstart" diabetes, obesity and a host of health problems.
Why is it America (and her children) have never been fatter, sicker or more malnourished and it's so strange we can't seem to figure out why?

Asian Honey, Banned in Europe - Floods U.S.A. - Food Safety News
Asian Honey, Banned in Europe, Is Flooding U.S. Grocery Shelves
Experts interviewed by Food Safety News say some of the largest and most long-established U.S. honey packers are knowingly buying mislabeled, transshipped or possibly altered honey so they can sell it cheaper than those companies who demand safety, quality and rigorously inspected honey.
FDA has the laws needed to keep adulterated honey off store shelves but does little, honey industry says.

A third or more of all the honey consumed in the U.S. is likely to have been smuggled in from China and may be tainted with illegal antibiotics and heavy metals. A Food Safety News investigation has documented that millions of pounds of honey banned as unsafe in dozens of countries are being imported and sold here in record quantities.
And the flow of Chinese honey continues despite assurances from the Food and Drug Administration and other federal officials that the hundreds of millions of pounds reaching store shelves were authentic and safe following the widespread arrests and convictions of major smugglers over the last two years.

“It’s no secret that the honey smuggling is being driven by money, the desire to save a couple of pennies a pound,” said Richard Adee, who is the Washington Legislative Chairman of the American Honey Producers Association.

The comments are very interesting - the following excerpt is my favorite:
Define 'moderation.' Fast food one meal a day? Fast food once a week? Once a month? Does five cigarettes a day make me a 'moderate' smoker? How about ten cigarettes? Does a 'moderate' drinker abstain all week but get obliterated every Friday and Saturday night? Or is one drink every day 'moderate'? Some things are best avoided entirely. And the term 'moderation' is meaningless. Your 'not enough' is my 'too much.'

Ancient grains go mainstream
Recently had the pleasure of meeting Maria Speck and have her cookbook - Ancient Grains for Modern Meals at Healthy Habits Kitchen in Wellesley, Mass.
Photographs are stunning - how can you make dried bulgar look interesting? Stories and background intriguing and am inspired to try all the recipes. Even had a friend borrow the cookbook when she saw it on the counter.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. - Ben Franklin
Why no mention in the post (as many comments have noted) on the highly processed, fake, nutritionally void, chemically laden American food supply and it's impact on our health as a nation. Diet and disease is the "big white elephant" in the room when discussing health care.
Don't you find it strange that America and her children have never been fatter, sicker or malnourished and we can't seem to figure out why.

Coca-Cola Commercial To Address Obesity For First Time Ever
![]() |
Do you find the American Heart Association's "support" of Diet Coke a little (well) disingenuous? |
Dasani Water*.
Hmmmm.....Dasani Water (a Coca Cola product) is not just water - it's"enhanced with minerals." Interestingly, it was a 23 year old who had lost 70 lbs that told me the water was on her "do not drink list."
*Are these "enhanced with minerals" just a manufacturing bi product and it's an easy way to dispose of leftover chemicals.
It's so strange, America and her children have never been fatter, sicker or more malnourished and we can't seem to figure out why.

The 5 Best Diet Changes to Make in 2013
Okay, does #5 smell a little fishy - like it was placed by a PR firm? Hmm...let's do the smell test*:
-My oncologist says the best source of vitamin D is 15 minutes of sunlight - not from "fortified food"
-Isn't cow's milk "just fortified" with vitamin D i.e. you're being duped
-Doesn't too much calcium from dairy products actually leech it from the bones and cause brittle bones?
-Again, my oncologist says the best way to strong bones is weight bearing exercise. Last time I checked, eating a slice of cheese wasn't too heavy.
So, does #5 smell like it was a press release from the dairy industry?
